Samsung isn’t planning to launch its next-gen flagship smartwatch called the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 anytime soon. However, this hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from leaking key features of the upcoming wearable. The latest leak is from Galaxyclub.nl, which claims the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could arrive with support for 5G networks.
The Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could be the brand’s first watch with 5G support
Samsung launched its previous Galaxy Watch Ultra smartwatch with support for only 4G/LTE connectivity. It was only available in this variant without a Bluetooth-only model. However, Samsung is taking things further with the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 by adding support for 5G connectivity.
As per the earlier leaks, the wearable could carry the model number SM-L716. While users probably won’t notice any difference with the 5G support, it should help send and receive data faster, at least on paper. The support for 5G networks should also extend the wearable’s battery life.
It’ll utilize the Snapdragon Wear Elite chip
Samsung recently introduced the Snapdragon Wear Elite wearable chip in collaboration with Qualcomm. So, it’s very likely that the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is going to utilize this chipset. Apart from the Watch Ultra 2, other flagship smartwatches from brands like Google are also going to use this chip.
Apart from improving connectivity with 5G support, the Snapdragon Wear Elite on the Watch Ultra 2 will offer a bunch of other latest connectivity features. These include support for Wi-Fi 6 networks, Bluetooth 6.0, ultra-wideband (UWB), and NB-NTN, which allows direct satellite connectivity for calls and texts.
This chip is based on a 3nm process and has a five-core CPU, apart from a significantly more powerful GPU. It is also capable of supporting faster AI processing, thanks to a built-in NPU (Neural Processing Unit).
Unfortunately, no other details about the smartwatch’s core features, like the display size, variants, battery size, and sensors, are available at the moment. We’ll know more in July, when Samsung could introduce the watch alongside the next-gen foldable smartphones.
