Samsung has been in the news a lot in recent weeks. Just yesterday, the company launched its new foldable Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7, among other products. However, the rumor mill continues to swirl, and the firm’s next flagship mobile phones are already showing signs of life. In a recent development, the model numbers for the Samsung Galaxy S26 lineup have been spotted by a certification body. The most interesting aspect seems to be the potential absence of a “Plus” model for 2026.
For years, Samsung’s top-tier S-series phones have generally followed a predictable pattern: a standard model, a “Plus” variant, and a super-premium “Ultra.” But as new model numbers for the Galaxy S26 begin to surface, there’s a glaring omission: where’s the Galaxy S26 Plus?
Samsung Galaxy S26 model numbers leave out the S26 Plus
Database listings (spotted by SammyPolice) from GSMA currently show three devices. There are model numbers for the core Galaxy S26 (SM-S942), a distinctive Galaxy S26 Edge (SM-S947), and the top-of-the-line Galaxy S26 Ultra (SM-S948). The expected model number for a Plus version (SM-S948) is totally missing. This absence is a pretty strong hint that previous industry whispers might be spot-on: Samsung could be retiring the Plus model.
Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 Edge as a risky bet on thinness. According to reports, the device’s sales would determine whether Samsung continued releasing “Edge” variants. Well, while the S25 Edge isn’t exactly selling well, Samsung seems to have made a decision.
Potential changes for the base variant?
The listings also show a subtle—but interesting—change to the base model. Previously, the model number for this variant ended in “1.” For example, the current Galaxy S25 uses the model number SM-S931. However, the base Galaxy S26 now “adopts” a form of model numbering ending in “2”.
What seems like a minor tweak could actually be more significant than you think. The new model number of the base Galaxy S26 could suggest it will inherit features from the potentially discontinued S26 Plus. It’s still too early to determine this, but it’s an interesting possibility. What if Samsung stops offering compact flagships? What if the standard S26 now has a screen size and battery life worthy of a “Plus” version?
Either way, it’s quite interesting to imagine what such a change would mean. In the meantime, everything points to the “Galaxy Edge” saga continuing into 2026, much to the delight of fans of super-thin phones.
