Samsung launched the Galaxy A55 mid-range handset in March last year with Android 14-based One UI 6. At the launch, the company promised a minimum of four major software updates for the device. Samsung has already delivered the promised One UI 7 update for the phone. And now, the brand has expanded the testing of its latest One UI 8 firmware, including the Galaxy A55 in the mix.
Samsung’s Galaxy A55 running Android 16 appears on Geekbench
Alfatürk, a user on X, has spotted a Galaxy A55 (model number SM-A556E) running Android 16 in the database of the benchmarking application Geekbench. The listing indicates that Samsung’s Android 16 optimization for Galaxy devices is in full swing, with the brand now adding mid-range phones like the Galaxy A55 to the testing arena.

The Galaxy A55, running the internal Android 16-based One UI 8 internal build, scored 1,150 points in single-core and 3,417 points in multi-core tests. It’s worth mentioning that since this isn’t the final software build, the company may improve the performance slightly while delivering an enhanced user experience in the stable update.
The Galaxy A55 is one of the best-selling mid-range smartphones from the company. Notably, before rolling out the stable One UI 7 update last month, the company released three beta updates for the Galaxy A55. It is the only non-flagship smartphone to get beta programs from the brand. Now, the company seems to be eager to release the One UI 8 update for the phone as soon as it becomes available later this year.
Samsung is also testing the same update for the Galaxy A56
The Galaxy A55 isn’t the only mid-range smartphone that Samsung is testing with the Android 16-based One UI 8 update. Just a few days ago, some X users spotted the first One UI 8 test build for the Galaxy A56 on the company’s servers. The build number of the firmware is “A566BXXU4BYF7,” and it is currently only showing for the Galaxy A56’s European variant.
Samsung will also release the Android 16-based One UI 8 update for the Galaxy M55 and F55 budget smartphones. The company could start testing the new firmware for these devices after finishing up the same for the mid-range Galaxy A series phones. We’ll keep you informed, so watch this space for regular updates.
