Samsung is reportedly expanding AirDrop file-sharing support to more Galaxy devices, including older models, via Android’s Quick Share feature. The function signals a major step toward better cross-platform file sharing between Android and Apple devices. While flagship Galaxy phone users can already access the feature, users on older Galaxy phones are now spotting early access signs, though the feature is not yet fully functional.
Older Samsung Galaxy phones may soon get the AirDrop file-sharing support
Samsung appears to be gradually enabling AirDrop support through Quick Share updates delivered via the Galaxy Store. Reports from users suggest that devices such as the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S23, Galaxy S24, and Galaxy S25 series have started receiving the new update with an option labeled “Share with Apple devices.” It allows users to share files directly with iPhones.
Google had earlier enabled its Pixel to support cross-device file sharing with iPhones, and now, Samsung seems to be following the path. Regardless of who did it first, it’s a great feature that removes the limitations between two different ecosystems and allows seamless file sharing. What’s even more commendable is that the Korean tech giant is planning to enable AirDrop support even for older Galaxy phones.
A step forward is improving the cross-device file-sharing system
Several users have already started spotting the new “Share with Apple devices” option on their Galaxy phones. However, the feature is not yet fully functional. Users can toggle the new sharing option, but actual file transfers between devices are not working at this stage. This suggests that the backend systems required to enable communication between platforms are still under development or awaiting activation.
The incomplete rollout hints that Samsung may enable the feature with a future software update. It could be activated in the One UI 8.5 release. As more manufacturers explore implementing AirDrop feature support, cross-device compatibility is becoming a priority across the smartphone industry. If successfully implemented, this feature could significantly improve convenience for users switching between ecosystems or sharing files across different brands.
