Samsung is developing two new, extremely compelling camera sensors, it seems. About a week ago, we talked about the ISOCELL HPC, a high-end 200MP camera sensor from the company that is in development. Well, now the Samsung ISOCELL HPA and HP6 sensors are rumored. Let’s focus on the HPA first.
The ISOCELL HPA is a 1/1.12-inch camera sensor, and it looks great on paper
According to a report from Teme, a tipster, the ISOCELL HPA sensor is also classified as a ‘flagship’ camera sensor. This will be a 1/1.12-inch camera sensor, based on what he said.
It will have LOFIC for great dynamic range and color accuracy. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra, which we recently reviewed, has a LOFIC main camera sensor, and it seems like we’ll see more and more camera sensors that support it.
In any case, we’re not sure when the sensor will launch, but the tipster says that Vivo and HONOR may start using it next year. So chances are that it’ll launch in the second half of 2026, at some point.
The tipster also mentioned that OmniVision has a nearly identical sensor to launch for the second half of this year. Just to be clear, the ISOCELL HPA sensor is said to be a 200MP camera sensor.
The ISOCELL HP6 could end up being used by the Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra
The other sensor is the ISOCELL HP6, and it will be a self-used version of the HPA sensor, says Ice Universe, a well-known tipster. What’s interesting is that this will be a 1/1.3-inch camera sensor, based on the tipster.
Ice Universe also said that this camera sensor will be featured in early 2027, so the Galaxy S27 Ultra could end up sporting it. It’s about time Samsung improved camera sensors in its flagship smartphone series, so that’s probably what’s happening.
That is basically all the information that we have at the moment. We’ve seen some truly compelling camera sensors announced in the last 6-12 months. Quite a few more are coming this year, it seems. The Sony LYT-901 that arrived last year is definitely worth highlighting. It hasn’t been used in a phone yet, but the upcoming Vivo X300 Ultra could sport it.
