Samsung has just officially confirmed that its first tri-fold smartphone will launch by the end of the year. This information comes from Samsung mobile chief, TM Roh. He revealed that information to select journalists, The Korea Times reports.
As many of you know by now, Samsung did not tease a tri-fold device during yesterday’s Unpacked event. It was fully focused on the devices at hand, as there were plenty, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 series.
Samsung’s first tri-fold smartphone will launch at some point this year, it’s official
The source reports that TM Roh said the following on the sidelines of Unpacked: “We are working hard on a tri-fold smartphone with the goal of launching it at the end of this year.” He also added: “We are now focusing on perfecting the product and its usability, but we have not decided its name. As the product nears completion, we are planning to make a final decision soon.”
So, the name hasn’t been decided just yet. It’s anyone’s guess at this point. A while back, a regional Samsung executive mentioned that the tri-fold device is ready to be put into production. That kind of hinted that it’s coming this year.
What is unfortunate, however, is that this smartphone will likely be exclusive to two markets, Korea and China. Based on several reports that we’ve seen thus far, those will be the only two markets it will launch in.
Users who don’t live in Korea or China will likely have to wait for the second-gen model
The rest of the world will likely have to wait until 2026 in order to get their hands on Samsung’s tri-fold devices. The first-gen model likely won’t make it to global markets at all, based on what was said.
That phone is expected to include a 10-inch folding OLED display, which will fold down into two smaller form factors. The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip is also tipped, and the same goes for a high $2,900-$3,000 price tag.
