Samsung appears to be stepping up its visual game with the upcoming One UI 8.5 update. Recent firmware builds, reportedly running on the Galaxy S25 Ultra, reveal a surprise for Galaxy users. Apparently, One UI 8.5 includes two brand-new interactive wallpapers designed to bring a dynamic touch to the lock screen.
If you are not aware, Samsung rarely introduces new wallpapers with major operating system updates. The firm often keeps the same preloaded options across multiple device generations. This background makes this development more notable. Now, Samsung aims for substantial visual enhancements in its Android 16-based software.
Two new interactive wallpapers coming to Samsung Galaxy devices with One UI 8.5
The two new wallpapers are interactive. They react to either user input or phone movement, making the lock screen more engaging. The first wallpaper features an abstract design resembling the surface of a basketball court. When viewed on the lock screen, a subtle but playful animation kicks in: a basketball drops and rolls across the lines.
The second option is more architectural. It shows a stylized archway with stairs, reminiscent of the popular Monument Valley games. This particular wallpaper offers a more dramatic effect than standard designs; tilting your Samsung Galaxy phone causes the image to rotate in the opposite direction, creating an enhanced parallax effect.
These wallpapers are present in a leaked internal build. Currently Samsung is still actively developing the software. The company is currently making tweaks—one report notes that a previously introduced feature, a tile view for favorite contacts, has already been removed from the newest test build. This shows that the final feature set could still change before release.
The company is reportedly gearing up to launch the One UI 8.5 beta program toward the end of November 2025. The stable version is expected to debut in early 2026, likely alongside the launch of the next-generation Galaxy S26 series. For now, these animated wallpapers offer a fun sneak peek at the visual improvements Galaxy users can look forward to.
