As we gear up for the holiday season, Roku is bringing some goodies in the form of software updates to its streaming sticks and TVs. The company notes that these features will keep you “connected to your favorite entertainment” by making it easier to discover. Following the trend of 2025, Roku’s new feature set includes an AI engine that can understand natural language questions about movies, shows, etc.
Roku introduces new fall 2025 features for its streaming sticks and TVs
Roku Voice has been around for a while, but it’s now getting an overhaul in the form of an AI-powered voice search. You can ask Roku Voice questions about movies, shows, and actors, and get answers right on the TV. Since it’s AI tech, you can ask follow-up questions, and Roku Voice will continue the conversation.
Roku claims the new Voice feature, with AI, will help you find what you want to watch “faster and smarter.” There’s a quick launch option for relevant content.

Improved search capabilities
In addition to the AI Voice feature, Roku is expanding the discovery capabilities. The improved search now includes Live TV Zone, and will soon get the Live TV Channel Guide. This feature allows you to quickly access your favorite channels, explore new genres, or browse trending shows and movies that are trending.
Roku will also guide you on where to stream each title, with no extra clicks needed. It’ll highlight up to two streaming apps under each title, based on your active subscriptions.
The Bluetooth Headphone Mode is rolling out globally to the Roku Streaming Stick and Streaming Stick Plus. You can connect your Bluetooth headphones or earbuds to enjoy the content without disturbing anyone around you.
Live scores and reminders for sports
Roku Sports is also getting a couple of new additions. The update introduces Live Scores and Reminders. The former will appear on game titles, allowing you to check scores and results from multiple sporting events in one place. You can always hide the scores if you wish to avoid spoilers. Meanwhile, with reminders, you won’t miss a game. You can set reminders for upcoming matches right on the screen. Roku will notify you with a mobile notification when it’s time to tune in.
The Roku mobile app is also getting some action. There’s a new rate button in the mobile app that lets you like, dislike, or mark a title as watched. These ratings will sync across all your devices. The For You page will soon get a navigation bar with content organized in categories like Movies, TV Shows, Sports, and more. In the coming weeks, it’ll get new quick shortcuts such as Closed Captions, Find My Remote, Sleep Timer, and Daily Trivia for easier navigation.
Roku hasn’t given a specific release timeline for these updates. However, it said that they will be available in the “coming months.”
