When smart glasses were first announced, the concept was simple. A pair of glasses with a built-in camera and lenses with a built-in display. But as tech advances, our needs have changed too. Now, Rokid is looking to make its smart glasses even more useful by integrating large language AI models, such as Gemini and ChatGPT.
Rokid integrates Gemini, ChatGPT into its smart glasses
During MWC 2026, the company announced that it would be making a huge ecosystem push by integrating AI into its smart glasses. However, for now it appears that it will only be available in the international variant of the Rokid Glasses, which following the update will support AI models like Google’s Gemini, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, DeepSeek, and Alibaba’s Qwen.
Rokid boasts that it is the first smart glasses maker to natively support Gemini. Also, by integrating support for multiple models, users can choose which model suits them the best for their needs.
It’s actually a smart play by Rokid. The company isn’t exactly the biggest name in the smart glasses scene. However, giving their wearables AI capabilities will make their products more compelling. For instance, with AI integration, users can take advantage of real-time translation. They could also have interactions that sound and feel more natural.
Also, the availability of both AI models from the US and China is an interesting one. Rokid says, “By bridging top-tier AI compute from both U.S. and Chinese developers, Rokid is breaking down technical barriers across different countries and linguistic contexts, delivering seamlessly localized AI experiences for global users and accelerating its international market penetration.”
Part of the AI push
Rokid’s decision mirrors that of other companies. More recently, the creators of the Luna Ring announced a similar AI integration. This would allow users to interact with the smart ring using natural language. However, in this case, Luna is using its own Luna Voice AI instead of more mainstream AI models. But the idea is the same.
Last year, we also saw Google start to push Gemini onto Wear OS smartwatches. This brings similar smarts to wearables for our wrists. For a more direct comparison, Meta also uses its own Meta AI in its Ray-Ban and Oakley smart glasses. This feels like a natural progression and is hardly a surprising move.
