The first Rivian R1T rolled off the assembly line in Normal, Illinois, in September 2021 as the model became the first mass-produced EV pickup ever delivered to a customer in the US market. Competitors from larger and more familiar automakers, including the Ford F-150 Lightning and Tesla Cybertruck, would join the scene in short order with more to follow.
