Pearl River Cos. broke ground on the first phase of retail construction at Sendero, a 75-acre project at the intersection of State Highway 71 and Farm to Market Road 969 in Bastrop.
Sendero will feature 250,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space, 782 apartments, a hotel and over 100,000 square feet of medical and wellness office space.
The first of two phases of the apartment component, Alta Trails, has already been completed. Wood Partners began construction on that portion of the project, then known as Alta Blakey, in 2023 after purchasing the multifamily portion of Sendero from Pearl River. The second multifamily phase is in the planning stages.
The retail portion that’s now under construction fronts the northern edge of State Highway 21 and totals 32,000 square feet. A number of tenants have already been secured. Future retail phases will include a 65,000-square-foot to 120,000-square-foot space for an anchor tenant and a 30,000-square-foot to 50,000-square-foot space for a junior anchor tenant.
