Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) announced Friday that his adult daughter, Cosette, died after battling cancer.
“Earlier this week, our daughter Cosette lost her battle with cancer. We are devastated by her passing, but take comfort knowing she is at peace with the Lord. We are grateful our family could gather together to spend her final days by her side,” Biggs said in a statement posted on X.
“Thank you to everyone for your thoughts, prayers, and support. We are humbled by this great community and the outpouring of love for Cosette and our family.”
Biggs, 66, is a father of six and grandfather of 10, according to his campaign website. Public posts and photos indicate Cosette had children.
First elected to Congress in 2016, Biggs is now running for governor of Arizona. He is a former chair of the conservative House Freedom Caucus.
Messages of support poured in for Biggs, including from his gubernatorial primary opponent, Karrin Taylor Robson.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the Biggs family during this incredibly difficult time. May God surround them with peace and comfort,” Taylor Robson posted.
Arizona Gov. Katie Hobbs (D) also expressed her condolences.
“There is no greater loss than the loss of a child. I extend my deepest condolences to Representative Biggs and his entire family during this trying time,” Hobbs posted on X.
