Related Cos. is seeking a rezoning from the City of Austin that would allow the company to build nearly 600,000 square feet of office space, 950 residential units, a 225-room hotel and 135,000 square feet of restaurant, grocery and retail space. Related is also seeking a maximum height of 650 feet in the center of the property and 500 feet on the edges of the property. The 6.5-acre site would be near the intersection of South Congress Avenue and East Riverside Drive.
The Austin Business Journal reports the company’s goal of the project is to develop a cluster of buildings that could be used throughout the day.
The site currently contains a two-story office building, a five-story office building, the South Congress Square Apartments and Ego’s karaoke bar.
Assuming Related’s zoning request is approved, its not clear when construction would begin. The company would likely have to spend two years on the site development process, and then identify financing.
