Dallas-based Allan Bailey Johnson Group has paid $134.5 million to acquire 201 Maple St., a regional headquarters for the FBI in Chelsea, MA, reported the Boston Business Journal. The seller was ACS Development of Chelsea, which bought the site in 2003 for $3 million.
The FBIÂ moved into 201 Maple in 2016, choosing the more secure, standalone location just off Route 1 after having been located at One Center Plaza in downtown Boston. The U.S. General Services Administration signed a 20-year lease at the time the FBI moved in.
The FBI’s Boston-area field office covers all of New England except for Vermont, overseeing 10 satellite offices across the area. The eight-story building spans 268,000 square feet. The sale of the Chelsea building comes as the federal government assesses which buildings nationwide are no longer needed. Its price is an aberration in a time of depressed office pricing, reported the Business Journal.
