The BMW M5 is often called the original “supercar in a suit,” and every generation of the executive sports sedan has lived up to that mantra in one way or another. The M5 has become synonymous with the idea of providing performance that creates wonder in an understated package that non-enthusiasts would associate with nothing but luxury, and that sleeper status is a huge part of what makes the M5 so beloved. As times and customer demands have changed, so too has the M5 evolved, introducing new technologies with each generation, for better or worse.
