Prologis Inc. said it intends to file plans later this year for a seven-million-square-foot redevelopment of the Caltrain railyards at Fourth and King Street that could add 1,500 to 4,000 homes. The San Francisco Business Times reported that if fully built, the project would rank among San Francisco’s largest housing additions near a major transit hub.
The wide range of possible units gives Prologis flexibility to adapt the project to future demand, reported the Business Times. Even with approvals unlikely before 2027, planning commissioners are already emphasizing affordability.
Housing will be central to transforming the railyards into a dense, transit-oriented district, Prologis VP Genevieve Cadwalader told commissioners Thursday. On the drawing boards for the past few years, the project could grow into San Francisco’s second-densest transit-focused district after Transbay.
“This is a vision for the future of San Francisco,” Cadwalader told commissioners.
