(NewsNation) — Prince William has revealed how he and Kate Middleton spoke to their three children about her cancer diagnosis.
In an interview with Brazilian television host Luciano Huck, William, 43, spoke openly about how the past two years have been “very tough” amid the dual cancer diagnoses of Kate, 43, and King Charles, 76.
The Prince of Wales told Huck that keeping things from Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis isn’t something that works, and he and Kate “chose to communicate a lot more with our children,” according to People magazine.
“Now, that has its good things and its bad things. Sometimes you feel you’re oversharing with the children you probably shouldn’t,” William said. “But most of the time, hiding stuff from them doesn’t work.”

William, who was in Rio de Janeiro last week to mark the fifth anniversary of the Earthshot Prize, his environmental award, and the United Nations Climate Summit COP30, said his family talks about their feelings and allows different views so they aren’t “anxious” about unanswered questions.
He added, “There’s a lot more questions when there’s no answers.”
Kate Middleton reveals cancer diagnosis
The Princess of Wales revealed in March 2024 that she was diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing chemotherapy following an absence from the public eye and royal duties.
Kate revealed in January that her cancer is in remission, writing on social media that she felt a sense of “relief” but remained “focused on recovery.”
In a television appearance, Prince William spoke to actor Eugene Levy in September for his Apple TV+ series “The Reluctant Traveler.” He told Levy that 2024 was the “hardest year I’ve ever had.”
“I’d say ‘23-’24 was the hardest year I’ve ever had,” the senior royal admits. “You know, life is sent to test us, and being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are.”
