Subaru has spent nearly its entire existence using the flat-four formula in nearly all of its models. The first instance of the Japanese automaker relying on a four-cylinder boxer engine dates back to the late 1960s, and in the longstanding series of flat-four engines, its EJ20 engine is one of the most well-known power units it’s ever used.
