The Nintendo Switch 2 has a new microSD Express option in the 1TB storage capacity, thanks to PNY. This also comes several months after PNY launched its 512GB option, which landed back in August of 2025. PNY is one of the most well-known brands in storage, memory, and GPUs, and it has a reputation for being one of the slightly more affordable options on the market. This is especially true when compared to some of the biggest brands, like Samsung and SanDisk. Both of which often cost significantly more for the same amount of storage capacity.
One of the downsides of the Nintendo Switch 2 is that Nintendo confirmed you would need a microSD Express card for expandable storage beyond the initial 256GB you get with the console internally. You can’t use the same cards you might have used with the Nintendo Switch. Which means you’d probably have to spend more money eventually. After all, 256GB fills up faster than you think. There have been quite a few options for microSD Express cards that were available throughout this past year since the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch. There have even been some 1TB options in the past few months. However, PNY has one big advantage over many of them.
The PNY 1TB microSD Express is a little more affordable than other options
The main thing that PNY is offering compared to other brands in the 1TB capacity, at least upfront, is the cost. Out of the handful of brands that are even making a 1TB card, PNY’s is among the least expensive. The only other option at the same price comes from Lexar. Worth noting is that Lexar’s card is also on sale. The regular retail price for it is $219.99. Its sale price is $199.99, matching the retail price of PNY’s newly available card.
On Amazon alone, if you look for other available 1TB cards, there aren’t many. But the remaining ones available will cost more than what PNY is offering. One option, a 1TB card from Gigastone, is $329.99. A whopping $130 more than the cards from PNY and Lexar. The Teamgroup Apex card is $226.99. A 1TB option from Silicon Power is about $236. Samsung and SanDisk don’t even appear to have a 1TB option yet. So, with all of that said, PNY is offering one of the two cheapest cards in this capacity. Cost aside, there’s also the fact that it has faster read and write speeds than some of the other options. Plus, it’s waterproof, temperature-proof, x-ray proof, shock-proof, wearout-proof, and drop-proof, according to PNY. If you need more storage for your Switch 2, you can currently pick up PNY’s 1TB microSD Express card on Amazon.
