Google Pixel’s Take a Message feature debuted with the Pixel 10 series last year. As the name implies, it answers the calls on your behalf and also lets you view live transcripts. While the feature works as advertised, it lacks a personal touch: the ability to set custom greetings in your own voice. Well, that is finally changing. The Google Pixel Phone app is now rolling out custom Take a Message greetings.
Google Pixel Phone app’s custom Take a Message greetings feature is now rolling out
9to5Google is seeing the custom Take a Message greeting roll out in version 216 of the Phone by Google beta. Once available, users will see a banner at the top of the Phone app’s Home tab, which reads “A personal touch on your missed calls. Now you can set custom greetings for calls handled by Take a Message.”
One can also access custom greetings from Settings > Take a Message > Manage greetings. This will take you to a new “Greetings” page where you’ll see the default “Standard greeting.” From here, you can record new ones.
Users can record multiple greetings
To begin recording, tap the microphone. It lets you record greetings up to 1 minute in length. The recorder uses Material 3 Expressive design. Once you’re done recording, hit pause and then “Save” at the bottom corner of the screen. Users can record multiple greetings, with the active one marked by a star. From the three-dot overflow menu, you can set a greeting as the default one, rename it, or even delete it.
The current setup allows users to set only a single greeting for all calls, but Google may let you assign specific greetings to specific contacts in the future. The custom Take a Message greeting is currently available in beta on Pixel 6 and higher models. It is yet to hit stable channels.
