We all receive dozens of notifications a day, if not more. Sometimes, they might not be notifications from people you prioritize, but thankfully that’s going to change if you own a Pixel phone. According to a report from 9to5Google, Google has started pushing out prioritized notifications for Pixel VIPs as part of the November Pixel Feature Drop update.
Pixel VPs now get prioritized notifications
For those unfamiliar, and perhaps it might be a good reason to buy a Pixel phone, Pixel VIPs are a Pixel-exclusive feature that allows users to assign specific contacts as a “VIP.” This will allow users to get more consolidated information about them quickly and more conveniently. Plus, there’s also a dedicated widget that lets you access those contacts faster.
Now, with this new update, Pixel VIPs get prioritized notifications. This means that if you’re getting a message or call from someone on your VIP list, it can bypass your phone’s Do Not Disturb mode. This is important because sometimes they might call due to an emergency. By bypassing your phone’s DND mode, they can reach you easier.
Also, as part of the November Pixel Feature Drop, these notifications will show you their avatar on your phone’s status bar and always-on-display. Also, the corner app icon is surrounded in yellow to make it more obvious. Right now, this seems to work for apps like Google Messages and WhatsApp.
Crisis badge alerts
In addition to priority notifications, the Pixel VIPs homescreen widget has also been updated. It will now show a crisis badge if the person’s address is facing some sort of emergency. This includes flooding, wildfires, or other severe weather alerts. Users can tap on it to open the VIP panel, which then shows further details.
Like we said, this is part of the November Pixel Feature Drop update. If you’re running a compatible Pixel phone (Pixel 6 and older), you should be able to access it. Just make sure that you’re running the latest version of the app, and you should be good to go.
