Google’s Pixel Studio debuted with the Pixel 9 series alongside other apps like Screenshots and Weather. The app lets you create images just from prompts, and personalize your creation with stickers and captions. However, other image generation features and integration from Google have come into play since then. This is why Google’s Pixel Studio is now reportedly going away, or at least some of its biggest features are.
Google Pixel Studio app’s generative AI features are going away
9to5Google reports the wind-down begins this week with an update to the Pixel Studio (version number 2.2.001.864530193.00) on the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 series. The updated image editor no longer has generative AI tools that let you edit with a prompt, create stickers, or delete parts of the image.
Instead, the app now has select functions, like cropping, drawing, highlighting, and adding text. This specific editor was introduced last year, replacing Markup. While that part of Pixel Studio remains, the prompt-based image generation and sticker creator will be going away in the coming days.

Pushing users to Nano Banana in Gemini
Google reportedly says that it will redirect Pixel Studio users to Nano Banana in Gemini. It will also offer an easy export tool for all their creations. The tech giant notes that this will happen “over time.” Meanwhile, all Pixel Studio-powered integrations will continue to work as expected for existing devices until then.
Google is shifting its focus towards image generation features like Remix in Google Messages and generative AI tools in Google Photos. Meanwhile, the company launched Nano Banana 2 for the Gemini app just yesterday. This next-generation image generation brings key upgrades like subject consistency for up to five characters and 4K resolution support.
