If you’re currently running a Pixel phone that’s compatible with Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2, then you’ll be in for a treat when you install it, if you haven’t already, because there’s a new feature that was added to help improve your phone’s battery life. The battery life improvements might be somewhat minimal. However, that likely depends on each user’s situation. As this seems like something that would be impacted by a variety of location-based factors.
The new feature in question is technically a feature that was already there, but it was changed with Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2. That feature is a new toggle that can be found in the Adaptive Connectivity section of the settings menu. It sits alongside a second toggle. Both are related to your phone’s network connectivity. It might not be obvious, but the way your phone interacts with your network can have an impact on its battery life, and these changes aim to impact it in a positive way.
Android 16 QPR3 Beta 2 improves battery life with a new optimization toggle
One of the two new toggles you can find in this version of the software is labeled as Optimize your network for battery life. As the label suggests, this is designed to select the best network for battery life. It states, “automatically selects the best network connection to extend your battery life.” This is a toggle, which means you can disable it, but chances are, you’ll want to leave this on. After all, Pixel phones aren’t necessarily known for the world’s best battery life. So, any improvement that can be squeezed out of the phone should be taken.
The second toggle is for ensuring you have a connection to the internet. It does this by automatically switching your phone from Wi-Fi to your mobile network. This is specifically for when the Wi-Fi connection is either poor or unavailable. Now it’s worth noting that if you have both spotty Wi-Fi nearby and a spotty mobile connection, there’s a chance for this to worsen your battery life too. So, you might want to keep an eye on how it all works. That way, you can decide if it’s worth enabling one or both of these toggles.
