Google may soon add a new Call Message feature to the Pixel Phone app. As the name suggests, it will take messages, filter spam from missed/declined calls, and even offer summaries. The entire process will happen live and let you view real-time transcripts. It sounds similar to iPhone’s Live Voicemail feature that debuted with iOS 17 in 2023.
The Call Message feature reportedly works entirely on the device
The evidence of the Call Message feature is spotted in the latest Google Phone beta (version 184). The feature kicks in when a call is missed or manually rejected. It then asks the caller to leave a message. You can find transcripts and audio for all calls managed by Call Message in the Recents tab. Users can pick up the call if it’s relevant, given the person is still on.
The feature works entirely on the device powered by AI Core and doesn’t require the internet. However, standard calling charges may apply. If your phone is off or out of the network range, Call Message becomes useless, and your carrier’s voicemail handles missed calls.
Google Call Message might be Pixel 10 exclusive, at least initially
The Call Message feature, codenamed Beesly, might trickle down to existing Pixel phones. Going by the app version “pixel2024” tag, which seems like a build meant for Pixel devices launched in 2024. However, there are chances it might be exclusive to the Pixel 10 at launch and gradually roll out to other models.
Samsung is also reportedly working on a similar on-device voicemail feature for its Galaxy smartphone users. The internal One UI 8 beta apparently includes strings of this feature. It may allow you to set the Galaxy phones to redirect incoming calls to an on-device voicemail. However, it might be a while before it’s available for everyone, possibly early 2026.
