The Google Pixel 9 is gaining a new feature today with the rollout of AirDrop compatibility support, Google confirms. The Quick Share feature for Android is essentially the platform’s version of AirDrop, which allows, as the name suggests, quick sharing of files back and forth between Android devices that are nearby. It’s quite useful if you constantly share stuff with friends or family, or collaborate often with co-workers.
It never worked with AirDrop, though, until Google added support for AirDrop last year. The problem is that Google only made it available for the Pixel 10 series phones (some of the best Android phones of 2025). Today, that changes.
Google has started rolling out AirDrop compatibility support for Quick Share to the Pixel 9
As is usually the case with any new major feature that gets added, or just any feature in general, Google says that the update to Quick Share is rolling out in stages. Specifically, users should look for the AirDrop compatibility to be available over the next few days. That’s how long it should take to get the feature out to all Pixel 9 devices. That means, you could have access to it today, or it might not be till the weekend.
The good news is that it’s just around the corner. So if you have any iPhone-toting friends who often try to AirDrop things to you, now they can actually do so. What makes this even better is that you don’t even need an internet connection for the sharing to work. That will make collaborating with co-workers infinitely more useful if there’s an outage or any sort of situation where data simply isn’t available.
The feature is rolling out starting today for the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The Pixel 9 Pro XL should obviously be included here, as it’s just the Pro model with a larger screen. Even if Google doesn’t explicitly mention it.
