A couple of days ago, PandaFlash, a tipster, said that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will offer an IP48 certification for water and dust resistance. Now, that got confirmed by another reliable tipster, Arsene Lupin.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 will not be properly dustproof, it will offer an IP48 certification
He confirmed it via X, by an image which you can see below. You’ll notice that, in the bottom-right corner, it clearly says IP48. Above it, both dust and water are pictured. As a reminder, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 also offers an IP48 certification. So this won’t be an improvement.

To put things into perspective, the first number, ‘4’, signifies protection for dust. It means the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be protected against particles as small as 1mm. The second number, ‘8’, is there for water protection. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 can be submerged in water for up to 30 minutes at up to a meter. That’s not bad at all for a foldable, it’s class-leading.
The thing is, the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold will deliver an IP68 certification. That means it will be the very first foldable to offer that certification, and in other words, such a high level of dust protection.
Samsung’s new foldables are coming on July 9
So, Google’s upcoming foldable will trump Samsung’s in terms of dust resistance. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is coming on July 9, so in less than a week at this point. It will launch in New York, alongside the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 series.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be a lot thinner than its predecessor, a lot. It’ll be a major move in the right direction for the company. It will finally be able to compete with the likes of OPPO, HONOR and Vivo.
The device will also be a lot lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 6. All that may end up making the Galaxy Z Fold 7 far more appealing to consumers. Only time will tell, though.
