Today, Google officially announced the Pixel 10 series smartphones, while also introducing a few other products and the new Journal app. As the name suggests, the new app allows you to quickly note your thoughts. That’s not all, Pixel Recorder, Screenshots, and Studio app are also receiving handy updates.
Google introduces the new Pixel Journal app alongside the Pixel 10 launch
The Pixel Journal app gives you quick access to jot down your thoughts, as it directly opens to a compose view. Besides writing what’s on your mind, you can attach images, maps, and activities from Health Connect. That’s not all; the Gemini-powered new Journal app also suggests what to write about. This could include Past topics, Memories, or your life goals.
There’s also an “Entries” tab that displays everything in reverse-chronological order. On the other hand, you’ll find the Insights feed offering an emoji calendar view. For those who worry about anyone seeing their journal, fortunately, you can also lock it.

Fresh updates for Pixel Recorder and the Screenshots app
Besides launching the new Journal app, the Pixel Recorder app is also getting three different updates. First, the company has splashed some Material 3 Expressive makeover tweaks across the app. Next up, you’ll see a thicker audio waveform and wavy progress bars. Last but not least, Google has also updated the recording interface with larger buttons.
Going forward, the music creation feature lets you hum and tune or verse. Interestingly, Google will also apply an AI-generated background track to it after analyzing the beat. You can simply click the “Create and add music” option after the process is finished. You can choose the vibe you like, including Chill Beats, Dance Party, or more.
Google is also letting you upload transcripts of your recording to NotebookLM. The good news is that Pixel Screenshots is also getting NotebookLM integration. Once captured, the Screenshots app will process and check whether it’s fit for a notebook and recommend that you add it. Well, there’s no such integration for the Google Pixel 10’s Journal app yet.
Pixel Studio and Gboard get a bunch of editing tools
Moving on, Google has brought the latest Imagen 4 model to the Pixel Studio app. You can use its tools when editing screenshots with Markup. Tools like Erase objects and the prompt-based Insert new ones also let you replace backgrounds. That’s not all; adding Stickers to screenshots using prompts is also possible now.
Finally, Gboard’s update adds new Writing Tools that check your typos, grammar, and punctuation errors. It can also fine-tune your text in a more professional, friendly, and descriptive way. You can access these new tools by tapping the new sparkling pencil icon in the suggestion strip.
Additionally, you can also access Writing Tools using voice commands, like “Rephrase this.” Worth noting that the Smart Edit feature is also now accessible through voice commands. You can use it to delete, replace, or insert words or punctuation.
