The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold is the company’s very first tri-fold foldable. It went on sale in some countries already, including the US. It sold out in the US very quickly on January 30, despite its huge price tag, and no trade-ins. Well, we’re here to compare that handset with another foldable from the company. This time around, we’re comparing the Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Do note that at this point in time, we did not review the Galaxy Z TriFold. The global version just launched, so that’s understandable. We did, however, use the phone for a short while. We also reviewed the Galaxy Z Fold 6 a while back. With that being said, we’ll kick off this comparison by listing the specs of both smartphones. Following that, we’ll compare them across a number of categories.

Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: Design
The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold kind of looks like the Galaxy Z Fold 6 with another backplate added on its back (when looking at them from the unfolded perspective). The two phones follow a very similar design language in general. They both have an aluminum frame. The Galaxy Z TriFold has a fiber-reinforced polymer back, while the Galaxy Z Fold 6 includes a glass back. They both have rather sharp corners and a flat frame.
Despite the fact that the Galaxy Z TriFold is a tri-fold device, it has only two folding options: a 10-inch display and a 6.5-inch one. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 gives you a 7.6-inch and a 6.3-inch option. Both devices have a triple camera setup on the back. Those are three vertically-aligned cameras, which sit on top of a camera island. They’re located in the top-left corner. Both devices have a power/lock and volume up and down buttons on the right-hand side.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6’s main panel has an under-display camera, while the cover display on the phone includes a centered display camera hole up top. Both displays on the Galaxy Z TriFold include a display camera hole. These devices are IP48 certified for water and dust resistance. The Galaxy Z TriFold is a considerably heavier device, though interestingly enough, it’s only barely thicker when folded. Both of them are rather slippery in the hand.
Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: Display
The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold has a 10-inch Tri-foldable Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display. It is a flat display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz and HDR support. The peak brightness is 1,600 nits, while the screen-to-body ratio is at around 90%. The resolution here is 2160 x 1584 pixels, while the display aspect ratio is 4:3. The cover display on the phone is a 6.5-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display with a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. HDR is supported, and the peak brightness is 2,600 nits. The Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 protects the display. The resolution here is 2520 x 1080 pixels.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, on the other hand, has a 7.6-inch Foldable Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display. That panel is flat, and it supports a refresh rate of up to 120Hz. HDR10+ is supported, and the peak brightness is 2,600 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is around 91%, while the resolution is 2160 x 1856 pixels. The cover display measures 6.3 inches, and it’s a Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel. That display has a refresh rate of up to 120Hz as well, and its peak brightness is 2,600 nits. The Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects it, while you’re getting a resolution of 2376 x 968 pixels.
All four of these displays are really good, actually. They’re vivid, sharp, and have good viewing angles. The touch response is good on all of them. You won’t really notice the creases on the main display when you’re looking straight at them. The main display on the Galaxy Z TriFold is the least bright of all of these displays, though it’s bright enough, we’d say. At least from what we’ve seen thus far.
Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: Performance
The Samsung Galaxy Z TrIFold is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, a 3nm processor. That chip comes with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS storage. The Galaxy Z Fold 6, on the other hand, is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, which is a 4nm chip. That processor is backed by 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 flash storage. Neither one of these phones supports a microSD storage expansion.
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 still offers really good performance. That’s not that surprising as it’s not that old of a phone at all. It still does everything you need it to with ease. The Galaxy Z TriFold should be a bit faster in specific tasks, such as opening apps, but the difference between them in that regard shouldn’t be that significant. The Galaxy Z TriFold uses Qualcomm’s flagship chip from last year.
What about gaming? Well, we did not really get a chance to play games on the Galaxy Z TriFold. However, considering its internals, it should offer a similar performance as the Galaxy Z Fold 7. We’re just not sure how good the cooling is. The Galaxy Z Fold 6, on the other hand, does a good job with games, that’s for sure. Just note that neither of these two is a gaming smartphone per se.
Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: Battery
The Galaxy Z TriFold has a 5,600mAh battery on the inside. The Galaxy Z Fold 6, on the flip side, includes a 4,400mAh battery. Samsung’s 2024 foldable doesn’t exactly offer great battery life. It’s passable, for some, but not great. If you’re a power user, you’ll be able to kill it before the day’s end, at least we were able to. That especially goes if you’re using the main display quite a bit.
We’re still not sure about the Galaxy Z TriFold. We’ll have to properly review it in order to gauge its battery life. It does have a bigger battery on board, but it also has a much bigger main display to deal with. We do expect it to do better than the Galaxy Z Fold 6 in terms of battery life, though. That’s just an expectation; we’ll have to wait and see. The Galaxy Z TrIFold does have the same battery capacity as the Huawei Mate XTs, though, a tri-fold from Huawei.
The Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold supports 45W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. The Galaxy Z Fold 6, on the flip side, supports 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. With a compatible charger, the Galaxy Z Fold 6 can be fully charged in less than an hour and a half. We still haven’t tested the Galaxy Z TriFold charging. It does have faster charging, but also a larger battery to deal with.
Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold vs Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: Cameras
There are three cameras located on the back of the Galaxy Z TriFold. A 200-megapixel main camera (1/1.3-inch sensor size) is backed by a 12-megapixel ultrawide unit (1/2.55-inch sensor size, 120-degree FoV). The third camera on the back of the phone is a 10-megapixel telephoto unit (1/3.94-inch sensor size, 3x optical zoom).

The Galaxy Z Fold 6, on the flip side, also has three cameras on the back. The main camera is a 50-megapixel unit (1/1.57-inch sensor size). There is also a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera (1/3.2-inch sensor size, 123-degree FoV) and a 10-megapixel telephoto camera (1/3.94-inch sensor size, 3x optical zoom).
The telephoto cameras here are identical. They should also provide rather similar results, not that impressive results, though, especially in low light. These are also regular telephoto shooters. The Galaxy Z TriFold should be able to beat the Galaxy Z Fold 6 in the main and ultrawide camera territory. It has considerably better hardware than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, and the Fold 6 was never that impressive when it comes to cameras to begin with. The Galaxy Z TriFold should be able to provide similar images to the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Audio
You’ll find stereo speakers on both of these smartphones. The ones on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 are loud enough, though definitely not the loudest we’ve heard, not even close. We still don’t know about the Galaxy Z TriFold.
What we do know is that neither of these two phones includes an audio jack. You can connect your wired headphones to their Type-C ports, though. The Galaxy Z TriFold supports Bluetooth 5.4, while the Galaxy Z Fold 6 supports Bluetooth 5.3.
