This time around, we’ll be comparing a foldable and a non-foldable smartphone. We’ll be comparing Samsung’s newest flagship foldable with the company’s general flagship smartphone, in other words, Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra specs. Samsung thinned down the Galaxy Z Fold 7 by a lot compared to its predecessor, while it’s also a lot lighter, some of you may be surprised on both accounts.
As per usual, we’ll first list the specs of both smartphones and will then move to compare them across a number of other categories. We will be comparing their designs, displays, performance, battery life, cameras, and audio output. There’s a lot to cover here, so let’s get going, shall we?

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: Design
Earlier, I said the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s thinness and lightness may surprise you. Well, the phone is both thinner and lighter than the Galaxy S25 Ultra, despite the fact that it’s a foldable. It is 8.9mm when folded, and it weighs 215 grams. The Galaxy S25 Ultra is 8.2mm thick and weighs 218 grams. Granted, the Galaxy S25 Ultra does include an S Pen silo on the inside, but still, it’s not a foldable phone, so this is quite shocking.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is made out of aluminum and glass, for the most part, though some titanium is used too, for the hinge. The Galaxy S25 Ultra has a titanium frame and a glass backplate. You’ll notice that both devices have rather sharp edges. Both of them also have a centered display camera hole. Well, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has it on the cover display. There’s one on the main display too, but it’s not centered.
The power/lock and volume up and down buttons sit on the right-hand side of both phones. Those are the only physical buttons. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 has three vertically-aligned cameras on the back, all of which are placed on a pill-shaped camera island. The Galaxy S25 Ultra has four cameras on the back, and five separate rings that protrude directly from the phone’s backplate.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is IP48 certified for water and dust resistance. The Galaxy S25 Ultra has superior water and dust resistance with IP68 certification. Both phones include Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on their backs.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: Display
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has two displays, while the Galaxy S25 Ultra has one. It includes an 8-inch main panel. That is a Foldable Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel. It supports an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz). HDR10+ is also supported, while the peak brightness is 2,600 nits. The resolution here is 2184 x 1968 pixels, while the screen-to-body ratio is at around 90%. The cover display measures 6.5 inches, and it’s a Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel. It offers an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz), and it’s protected by the Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2. The resolution here is 2520 x 1080.

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, on the other hand, includes a 6.9-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X panel. That display offers an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz), and it has HDR10+ support. The peak brightness is 2,600 nits, while the screen-to-body ratio is at around 92%. The resolution here is 3120 x 1440, while the display aspect ratio is 19.5:9. Corning’s Gorilla Glass Armor 2 protects this panel.
Now, all displays are vivid, have great viewing angles, and are more than bright enough. They also have good touch response and offer those inky blacks that you’d expect out of AMOLED displays. The Galaxy S25 Ultra does have a sharper panel, even though you won’t notice the difference. What you will notice is the benefit of anti-reflectiveness, thanks to the Gorilla Glass Armor 2.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: Performance
Both of these smartphones are fueled by the same processor, the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy. That is an overclocked version of Qualcomm’s most powerful processor. Both of them also include either 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM, depending on the market. In most markets, however, the Galaxy S25 Ultra has 12GB of RAM, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a 16GB RAM option for a 1TB model only. Speaking of which, UFS 4.0 flash storage is used by both. Storage expansion is not available, though.
You’ll be glad to know that both of these smartphones offer really compelling performance. Granted, we still haven’t fully reviewed the Galaxy Z Fold 7 at this point, but from what we’ve seen, performance is not a problem. We still have to test the gaming side of things, but in general use, the phone is very snappy. It’s actually on the same level as the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which is not surprising considering the similarities on the hardware side of things.
The Galaxy S25 Ultra does make for a compelling gaming smartphone, too. This phone can run pretty much any game from the Google Play Store, and it can do it well, too. Yes, it does get quite warm, but we haven’t had issues with overheating or anything of the sort, and we’ve been using this phone since launch, for the most part.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: Battery
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a 4,400mAh battery on the inside. The Galaxy S25 Ultra includes a 5,000mAh battery pack. Granted, that 4,400mAh battery is actually considered to be quite modest for the Fold 7. Still, the initial battery life impressions are good. No, the phone cannot reach the heights of the Galaxy S25 Ultra, but nobody expected that given the hardware here.
We’ll have our final say about the Galaxy Z Fold 7 battery life soon, in our full review, but for now, it has been quite good, actually. With our use, it goes over 7 hours of screen-on-time. The Galaxy S25 Ultra can clock in a couple of extra hours of screen-on time, which gives you an idea how great its battery life is. All that will depend on your use, of course. There are simply too many factors involved here, so your experience may be notably different.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 supports 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, on the other hand, supports 45W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. Unsurprisingly, the Galaxy S25 Ultra charges faster, it can be fully charged in an hour. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 will take around an hour and 25 minutes to get there. Neither phone includes a charger in the retail box.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 vs Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra: Cameras
Samsung’s foldable ships with three rear cameras. It packs in a 200-megapixel main camera (1/1.3-inch sensor size). In addition to that, you’ll find a 12-megapixel ultrawide snapper (120-degree FoV) on the back of the phone. The last camera there is a 10-megapixel telephoto unit (3x optical zoom).

The Galaxy S25 Ultra, on the flip side, has four cameras on the back. A 200-megapixel main camera (1/1.3-inch sensor size) sits on the back. That’s the same one the Fold 7 offers. A 50-megapixel ultrawide camera (1/2.5-inch sensor size, 120-degree FoV) is also included. A 10-megapixel telephoto camera (1/3.52-inch sensor size, 3x optical zoom) also sits back there, as does a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto unit (1/2.52-inch sensor size, 5x optical zoom).
The two phones are expected to offer similar performance with the main camera. They have the exact same one, plus the same chip too. From what we’ve seen, the results are fairly similar, though we’re still putting the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s camera through its paces. The telephoto camera is also the same, and the results are not exactly impressive. The Galaxy S25 Ultra has the advantage of having a capable periscope telephoto camera too, however, and it also includes a notably better ultrawide camera. Yes, it shows.
Audio
You’ll find stereo speakers on both of these phones. The ones on the Galaxy S25 Ultra are more than loud enough, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 doesn’t seem to be far from that point, at least based on what we’ve seen thus far. The sound quality is good on both accounts.
There is no audio jack on either of these two smartphones. You can connect your wired headphones to their Type-C ports at the bottom, however. Alternatively, both phones support Bluetooth 5.4 for wireless connectivity.
