Samsung has announced its new foldable smartphones on July 9. Both the company’s flip phone and book-style flagship foldables arrived, alongside the budget ‘FE’ Flip. Having said that, in this article, we’ll be comparing the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 specs. In other words, we’ll be comparing the new flagship flip phone foldable from Samsung vs last year’s.
Samsung did improve this year’s offering, but it’s not a huge leap compared to last year. Still, it should be interesting pitting these two against each other. We’ll first list the specs that both phones offer, and will then move to design, display, performance, battery, cameras, and audio categories. Do note that we haven’t reviewed the Galaxy Z Flip 7 at this point, the launch event was yesterday. A review is coming, so stay tuned for that.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6: Design
These two smartphones do look very similar. You can clearly tell which is which by looking at their cover displays, though. The one on the Galaxy Z Flip 7 is larger, and goes around the cameras on the back. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 has the so-called folder-type display, and does not go around the phone’s main cameras. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 also has thinner bezels around that cover display, the difference is more than obvious.
Both phones have Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the back, so a glass backplate. Both of them also have the same camera layout on the back, two cameras, which sit in a landscape format, one next to the other. The LED flash is placed right next to those two cameras. Both phones also have a flat frame all around. You’ll notice a flat foldable display too, along with a centered display camera hole up top on both phones.
Even their physical keys have a similar placement. The power/lock and volume up and down buttons are placed on the right-hand side of both devices. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is taller and wider than the Galaxy Z Flip 6, though. That is not exactly surprising as Samsung included a larger display here, and a display aspect ratio too. The new phone is also thinner, while the difference in weight is only 1 gram. Both of them are also IP48 certified for water and dust resistance.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6: Display
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 has a 6.9-inch Foldable Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X main display with a resolution of 2520 x 1080. That panel supports HDR10+ and it has an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz). The peak brightness here is 2,600 nits, and the screen-to-body ratio is at around 88%. A 4.1-inch Super AMOLED display is this phone’s cover display. It has a 120Hz refresh rate, peak brightness at 2,600 nits, and a resolution of 1048 x 948. The Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects it.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6, on the other hand, includes a 6.7-inch Foldable Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X main display. That display offers a resolution of 2640 x 1080, and it has an adaptive refresh rate (1-120Hz). It supports HDR10+ content and has a peak brightness of 2,600 nits. The screen-to-body ratio is around 85%. The cover display measures 3.4 inches, and it’s a Super AMOLED panel with a 60Hz refresh rate. The peak brightness is 1,600 nits, while the resolution is 748 x 720 pixels. The Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protects this panel.
All four of these displays are really good. They are all vivid, have good viewing angles, and are more than sharp enough. The main displays are on the same playing field. One is a bit larger than the other, but they’re equals in basically every other way. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 does have a better cover display, however. Not only is it brighter, but it has a higher refresh rate too, not to mention that it’s larger and aesthetically more pleasing.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6: Performance
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 is fueled by the Samsung Exynos 2500 processor. That is the company’s new 3nm chip, and it is paired with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM here. UFS 4.0 flash storage is used too. The Galaxy Z Flip 6, on the flip side, comes with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy processor, that’s a 4nm chip. It also includes 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 flash storage.
Most users would probably prefer the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy inside the Flip 7, the same chip that Samsung used in the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The Exynos 2500 does look good on paper, and it remains to be seen how it’ll perform during our review. First impressions are not bad, though. The Galaxy Z Flip 6, however, still offers great performance. It worked great from the get-go, and that continued up until now.
Last year’s flip phone flagship from Samsung also did a great job with games, and it’s still doing great. The Galaxy Z Flip 7 will need to be tested in that regard, but the Flip 7 handles basically every game with ease. That goes for even the most demanding games out there. Yes, it gets quite warm, but we haven’t had issues with overheating or anything like that.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6: Battery
The Galaxy Z Flip 7 includes a 4,300mAh battery on the inside. The Galaxy Z Flip 6, on the other hand, comes with a 4,000mAh unit. Yes, the new model has a larger battery, but that’s not surprising. It includes a larger main display and a larger cover display with a higher refresh rate. The battery bump was needed. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 didn’t have a large battery to begin with, so there you go.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6 didn’t exactly impress with its battery life from the get-go, and not much changed in a year. It does offer good battery life, but not great. The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra aka Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 easily wins in a direct comparison. We’re not expecting a major improvemnet from the Galaxy Z Flip 7 in that regard, in all honesty. It’s about time Samsung embraced silicon-carbon batteries like most of the competition.
There is also no improvement in charging speeds. Both of these smartphones support 25W wired, 15W wireless, and 4.5W reverse wireless charging. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 can be fully charged in around an hour and 40 minutes, while we’re expecting that the Flip 7 will take even longer to charge, due to the fact it has a slightly larger battery. Neither phone comes with a charger in the box, by the way.
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6: Cameras
Samsung didn’t exactly improve the camera hardware either. These two smartphones have the exact same cameras. A 50-megapixel main camera (1/1.57-inch sensor size) is backed by a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera (1/3.2-inch sensor size, 123-degree FoV) on the back. A 10-megapixel selfie camera (1/3.0-inch sensor size) sits on the phone’s main display. Samsung did boost the Fold 7 in that regard, but not the Flip 7.
We didn’t really manage to capture a lot of shots with the Galaxy Z Flip 7, but we are seeing some differences in camera performance already. The Exynos 2500 is fueling this phone, not a Snapdragon chip, so that is to be expected. It didn’t impress thus far, not to say that the images are bad, but we’re not impressed. You’ll be able to read more about that in the upcoming full review, though. We need more information in order to say anything concrete.
The Galaxy Z Flip 6, while it does a good job, cannot compete with the best cameras out there. The colors can still be a bit weird at times, and the same goes for Samsung’s image processing in general. It’s not the best camera for low-light either, and that especially goes for the ultrawide snapper on the device. The selfie camera is decent, but not much more than that.
Audio
Both of these phones come with stereo speakers. While we didn’t get a chance to properly test out the ones on the Fold 7 yet, the ones on the Galaxy Z Fold 6 are good. They are not the best out there, but they’re good enough in both terms of loudness and sound quality.
What you will not find on either of these two smartphones is an audio jack. You can still connect your wired headphones, though, via the Type-C ports on these two phones. Alternatively, the Fold 7 supports Bluetooth 5.4, while the Fold 6 supports Bluetooth 5.3.
