This time around, we’re comparing the very best OnePlus and Apple have to offer. In other words, this is a OnePlus 15 vs Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max comparison. Both of these are large-format flagship smartphones, and both of them are very compelling in a lot of ways. They do look quite different, though, while they also have considerably different specs under the hood.
Needless to say, one of these is an Android smartphone, while the other is based on iOS. We’ll kick things off by comparing their specs, and will then move to a number of other categories. We’ll compare their designs, displays, performance, battery life, cameras, and audio output. So, let’s get to it, shall we?

OnePlus 15 vs Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max: Design
Both of these smartphones are made out of metal and glass. In fact, both companies opted to make their frames out of aluminum this time around, for better heat dissipation. The OnePlus 15 has Gorilla Glass 7i on the back, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max has Ceramic Shield. Both smartphones have mostly flat frames, but both of them do curve slightly towards the edges, for comfort’s sake.
You’ll notice a flat display on both smartphones, while both of them have cutouts on the display. The OnePlus 15’s is much smaller, as it has a centered display camera hole. The iPhone 17 Pro Max has the so-called Dynamic Island on the front, a pill-shaped cutout. The bezels around both displays are minimal, and they’re also uniform. The screen-to-body ratio is very similar on the two devices, and it’s above 90%.
The OnePlus 15 has power/lock and volume rocker keys on the right side, while the action key sits on the left. The iPhone 17 Pro Max has its power/lock key on the right side, along with a camera control key. On the left, its volume rocker keys are located, along with an action button. The back sides of the two phones are mostly flat, but their camera islands are very different. The OnePlus 15 has a camera island in the top-left corner, with three cameras. The iPhone 17 Pro Max has a camera bar, even though its cameras are located in the top-left corner.
The OnePlus 15 has better water and dust resistance with IP68 and IP69K ratings. The iPhone 17 Pro Max comes with an IP68 rating only. Both phones are quite slippery in the hand, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max is a bit bigger and a bit heavier as well.
OnePlus 15 vs Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max: Display
OnePlus’ flagship features a 6.78-inch LTPO AMOLED display. That panel is flat, and it can project up to 1 billion colors. It offers a refresh rate of up to 165Hz, while Dolby Vision and HDR10+ content are supported. HDR Vivid is also supported, while the resolution here is 2772 x 1272 pixels. This display can get quite bright when needed, and the display aspect ratio is 19.5:9. The screen-to-body ratio is almost 91%. This panel is protected by the Gorilla Glass Victus 2.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max, on the other hand, has a 6.9-inch LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED display. That panel has a 120Hz refresh rate, while it supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision content. The peak brightness is quite high, though not as high as what the OnePlus 15 offers. The screen-to-body ratio is at almost 91%, while the display aspect ratio is 19.5:9. The resolution this display offers is 2868 x 1320 pixels. The Ceramic Shield 2 protects this panel.
Both of these displays are outstanding. They’re bright, vivid, and have outstanding viewing angles. The touch response is great on both of them. The OnePlus 15 does technically go higher in terms of refresh rate, though you’ll notice that only in some games. It does have the advantage of high PWM dimming for sensitive eyes, and it also gets a bit brighter than the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s display. Both are plenty bright, and quite frankly, you’ll hardly notice the difference.
OnePlus 15 vs Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max: Performance
The OnePlus 15 is fueled by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip, which is the most powerful processor from Qualcomm. That phone also includes up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 flash storage. The iPhone 17 Pro Max is fueled by the Apple A19 Pro, Apple’s most powerful chip, while it also includes 12GB of RAM and NVMe flash storage. Neither phone supports expandable storage, by the way.
Both of these chips are 3nm processors, and both of them are among the most powerful on the market, top 3 easily. The OnePlus 15 does include faster RAM and storage, technically, but both smartphones do offer great day-to-day performance. Anything you do on either of these two phones feels buttery smooth. You can push them really hard, and that won’t make a dent. It’s basically impossible to get them to slow down.
The same goes for gaming, actually. Both phones remain rather cool even when heavy games are running. Well, they can get warm after some time, but nothing that should concern you. They never got hot during our usage. Both have good cooling, though the OnePlus 15 has the upper hand in that department. It also has more gaming features on board, and a higher refresh rate for gaming.
OnePlus 15 vs Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max: Battery
There is a huge 7,300mAh battery included inside the OnePlus 15. The company opted to use a silicon-carbon battery, which is why it managed to fit such a huge unit inside. The iPhone 17 Pro Max, on the other hand, has a regular Li-Ion battery on the inside. The nano SIM model has a 4,823mAh battery, while the eSIM model comes with a 5,088mAh unit. Do note that only the eSIM model is available in the US.
While the iPhone 17 Pro Max does offer excellent battery life, it simply cannot compare to the OnePlus 15. The iPhone 17 Pro Max will easily offer a full day’s worth of battery life, even two days for some. So you can imagine how much the OnePlus 15 offers as it can easily offer around 30% more screen-on time than the iPhone 17 Pro Max under the same usage. The OnePlus 15 is one of the best battery life smartphones we’ve ever used, period.
OnePlus also trumps Apple in the charging department. It supports 120W (100W in the US) wired charging, along with 50W wireless, 10W reverse wireless, and 5W reverse wired charging. The iPhone 17 Pro Max, on the other hand, supports 40W wired, 25W MagSafe wireless, and 4.5W reverse wired charging. The OnePlus 15 does come with a charger in some regions, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max does not include a charger.
OnePlus 15 vs Apple iPhone 17 Pro Max: Cameras
The OnePlus 15 includes three cameras on the back. It has a 50-megapixel main camera (1/1.56-inch sensor size), a 50-megapixel ultrawide unit (1/2.88-inch sensor size, 116-degree FoV), and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera (1/2.76-inch sensor size, 3.5x optical zoom). It also has a color spectrum sensor and laser autofocus.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max, on the other hand, also features three cameras on the back. It has a 48-megapixel main camera (1/1.28-inch sensor size), along with a 48-megapixel ultrawide camera (1/2.55-inch sensor size, 120-degree FoV), and a 48-megapixel periscope telephoto unit (1/2.55-inch sensor size, 4x optical zoom).
Apple’s handset technically has larger camera sensors for all three cameras. The difference is not that big, however, and both phones do a great job when it comes to photos and video. The images on the OnePlus 15 are a bit warmer and a bit more contrasty. Both phones do a fantastic job in both good light and low light, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max has the edge when it comes to video recording and selfies.
Audio
Both of these phones are equipped with stereo speakers, and both sets are quite good. The ones on the OnePlus 15 are noticeably louder, though. The output quality is excellent on both sets, though.
Neither of these two smartphones has a 3.5mm headphone jack, unfortunately. Both of them are equipped with Bluetooth 6.0, though. You can easily connect them to your wireless headphones and other Bluetooth-compatible devices.
