OnePlus and OPPO have announced that you should prepare for increased smartphone prices. Both companies will be raising prices, though only for their budget phones, it seems. Well, at least as far as OPPO is concerned.
OPPO and OnePlus confirm price hikes
Some phones will get price bumps on March 16. That notice has been shared via the company’s online store, and you can see it below. This is not exactly all that surprising, considering rising prices for component costs, especially memory and storage.

As you can see, OPPO says that it decided to adjust prices after “careful evaluation” in response to higher costs for key components. OPPO also clarified that this price hike will include the OPPO A and K series phones, but not OPPO Find, Reno, or Pad series devices.
So, it seems like the price hike is only for budget smartphones, at least for now. Those are great news for tech enthusiasts, at least, as they’re usually not aiming for those devices.
What about OnePlus? Well, OPPO did say that the price hike will include OnePlus phones too, but it did not mention which ones. We’re not sure if the company’s higher-end devices will be affected.
Some companies have already raised some prices, while many others will likely follow
While OPPO is the first company to officially announce it, other companies have hinted at similar moves. Both Vivo and Xiaomi have hinted that higher component costs could lead to more expensive phones in the near future.
Some companies have already made the change without an official announcement, as OPPO has. For example, Samsung has increased prices for Galaxy smartphones in India.
Unfortunately, we’ll almost certainly see this happen across the industry. Component prices have truly skyrocketed, especially when it comes to memory and storage. Such major changes usually result in higher prices; that’s how it goes, unfortunately.
