Early leaks regarding Samsung‘s upcoming big Oner UI release suggest the company is moving toward a cleaner, more refined interface. Expected to launch around July alongside new foldable devices, the Android 17-based One UI 9 update may bring some necessary UI upgrades focused on sections like the photo editor (more specifically, the AI-powered editing suggestions), Settings, and “About phone,” as well as smoother animations.
Less is more: Samsung’s One UI 9 design philosophy
One of the most immediate changes is found within the “About phone” section of the Settings app. Historically, Samsung has occupied significant screen space with a large image of the device. According to a leak shared by SammyGuru, One UI 9 replaces this with a much smaller icon tucked into the top-left corner.

This allows key information—like your model name and serial number—to sit directly alongside the image. Meanwhile, details like your IMEI move just below. It’s a small tweak, but it makes the page feel significantly less cluttered and much easier to read at a glance.
One tap, AI-powered photo editing
The photo editor is also getting a brain boost. The leaks reveal a new layout that includes “smart suggestion pills” floating above the editing tools. Powered by AI, these pills analyze the photo you are viewing and suggest instant fixes, such as color corrections or object removal. This approach aims to reduce the time users spend digging through menus.
Upgraded animations
Even the act of searching for a setting is getting a facelift. Samsung is reportedly introducing new “elastic” animations for the search bar within the Settings app. The new bar expands and collapses with a smooth, flexible motion that mirrors the fluidity found in stock Android. This will make One UI feel less static.
It’s worth noting that these details come from early leaks and could change before the official beta. Therefore, they might appear differently in the stable release of One UI 9. In any case, it’s clear that Samsung is trying to “clean up” its mobile OS by removing unnecessary descriptions and UI elements to make it feel less cluttered.
