
Nearly half of tenants see a poor technical experience as the number one pain point hindering them from coming into the office, according to VTS’ second annual Global Workplace Report. The speed bump occurs as the desire for in-person collaboration and engagement in the office increases, with 59% of companies in North America, Europe and Australia planning to encourage or mandate more time onsite over the next 12 months.
“Over the past year, it’s become apparent that the office market is gaining meaningful momentum once again, with demand nationally up over 16% year-over-year as tracked in our VODI [VTS Office Demand Index] report,” said Nick Romito, CEO of VTS. “As more workers get back in the office and increase their time spent there, it’s important property managers, landlords, and other on-site experience decision makers evaluate the technology they use and what kind of experience they provide, as tenant demands have drastically evolved on the other side of the pandemic.”
While tenants see a poor technical experience as the main complaint, property management teams say it’s inadequate space utilization. Tenants also recognize the space utilization issue, with 79% saying their workspaces lack the required space to sufficiently collaborate, although collaboration is frequently cited by occupiers as one of the main reasons for bringing employees back onsite.
