Wistron Corp., a Taiwan-based electronics manufacturer, has been offered generous tax breaks as an inducement to build two factories in Fort Worth. The City Council voted to approve a 10-year tax abatement that would give the company up to a 70% tax break on the real estate and personal property at 15200 Heritage Parkway and 14601 Mobility. The Dallas Business Journal reports that the company could invest $80 million in property and $411 million in equipment at the 324,598-square-foot building on Heritage Parkway, which is part of Trammell Crow Co.’s 35 Eagle industrial campus.
If the company chooses Fort Worth, it could begin construction this summer. Fort Worth is competing with El Paso, Nashville and Fremont, California for the plant.
Nvidia Corp. (Nasdaq: NVDA) chose Wistron in April as one of its partners to build factories to produce new domestic supercomputers. Mass production at plants in Dallas-Fort Worth and the Houston area is expected to ramp up by the middle of next year.
