Nubia has added a new flagship phone to its catalog with the launch of the Z80 Ultra in China. The firm already gave us a glimpse at the design of the device last week. It has now fully unleashed the Z80 Ultra as the successor to last year’s Z70 Ultra (review). Similar to its predecessor, the new Z series offering from Nubia also sports an all-screen fascia and an unconventional rear design compared to other Android flagships.
Nubia has loaded the Z80 Ultra to the core
Nubia’s Z80 Ultra flaunts a 6.85-inch 1.5K OLED BOE Q9+ screen panel. It has a maximum screen refresh rate of 144Hz, a peak brightness of 2,000 nits, and supports high-frequency PWM dimming and DC dimming features. Powering the flagship is Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor built on TSMC’s 3nm upgraded node. Up to 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of storage support the flagship SoC.
The phone includes features to improve multimedia, gaming and durability. The list includes dual speakers, DTS: X Ultra sound, IP68, and IP69 dust/water resistance ratings. There’s also an in-display fingerprint sensor for enhanced security.
The Nubia Z80 Ultra equips a composite liquid metal cooling system. It has a super-large 3D ice steel vapor chamber to help with heat dissipation when delivering extreme performance. There are also the Synopsys Touch IC and physical gaming keys to deliver professional-level gaming control.
A 64MP periscope lens and a professional photography kit are also on offer
In the camera department, the Nubia Z80 Ultra doesn’t disappoint. The firm has equipped it with a 50MP 1/1.3-inch OmniVision LightMaster 990 sensor, complemented by a 50MP wide-angle lens. There’s also a 64MP 2.7x periscope telephoto lens with a 1/2-inch, an f/2.48 aperture and 15cm telephoto macro support. For selfies, the device features a 16MP shooter on the front, hidden beneath the display.
Additionally, ZTE has introduced a new Professional Photography Kit for the Z80 Ultra. It enhances the photography experience with a premium nano-leather body, titanium alloy frame, and ergonomic cowhide handle. It features physical control keys, a customizable wheel, and a quick-release handle. The kit also includes a T-mount for external lenses, a 67mm filter adapter, and a cold shoe mount for accessories like lights and microphones.
Software-wise, the latest Nubia flagship boots Android 16 with Nebula AIOS 2. It comes loaded with a handful of AI experiences, as expected from a mobile flagship in 2025. Even more impressive is its massive 7,200mAh battery with 90W wired fast charging and 80W wireless charging support.
Coming to the pricing, the Z80 Ultra price starts at around $700 for the base model. It goes up to approx. $850 for the most high-end variant. The photography kit for the device costs around $95.
The phone comes in multiple attractive colorways, including the Starry Night Collector’s Edition and a Luo Tianyi customized version. Nubia has started selling the phone in China and will launch the phone in select global markets soon.
