Samsung Display had announced a new upgrade for the screen used in the monitors, particularly to improve viewing quality. The tech giant revealed its QuantumBlack coating, a low-reflection film designed specifically for QD-OLED monitors. This technology addresses common issues like glare and durability while maintaining deep black levels.
Samsung’s new QuantumBlack low-reflection film addresses common concerns of QD-OLED monitors
As per Samsung, the new QuantumBlack low reflection film reduces light reflections by around 20% compared to earlier QD-OLED technologies. This improvement allows users to enjoy clearer visuals even in brightly lit environments. Unlike traditional anti-reflective coatings, the new film achieves this without compromising black depth, which remains a defining strength of QD-OLED monitors.
Another key improvement of the new screen tech is its durability. The surface hardness has increased from 2H to 3H on the Mohs scale, making screens more resistant to everyday wear. This is particularly useful for users who frequently handle or clean their monitors. Samsung says the combination of improved durability and viewing angles ensures that QuantumBlack not only enhances visual clarity but also extends the lifespan of display panels in practical use.
New monitors will soon flaunt the new QuantumBlack-powered displays
Several are already on the way to integrating Samsung’s QuantumBlack film into upcoming QD-OLED monitors. Companies like ASUS, Gigabyte, and MSI will adopt the technology under their own branding. ASUS refers to it as Black Shield, Gigabyte calls it Obsidian Shield, and MSI markets it as Dark Armor.
According to Omdia, the self-emissive display segment is expected to grow significantly, rising from 3.4 million units in 2025 to 7.6 million units by 2030. This surge highlights increasing demand for advanced display technologies. With QuantumBlack, Samsung positions itself at the forefront of this expansion. The display tech offers a low-reflection film that meets both performance and durability expectations in next-generation monitors.
