- Subaru launches the BRZ Type RA as a limited edition for only Japan.
- It features an STI bodykit with splitter, skirt, and a carbon wing.
- Gains racecar engine parts plus ZF dampers and new Brembo brakes.
Shortly after announcing the Yellow Edition BRZ, Subaru has pulled the cover off another limited production special. It’s called the Type RA, short for Record Attempt, and it carries a healthy catalogue of STI components, a more focused suspension setup, and a racing engine. Only 300 buyers in Japan will ever get one.
Review: 2025 Subaru BRZ tS Is A Blast For The Young And The Young At Heart
The new special edition starts with the BRZ STI Sport trim, which corresponds to the US-spec BRZ tS, although its real inspiration comes from the Team SDA Engineering BRZ CNF Concept that runs in the Super Taikyu Series.
What Sets It Apart?
Starting from the exterior, the Type RA is fitted with an STI bodykit that includes a front splitter, a rear bumper extension, a performance muffler with larger tailpipes, and an optional rear wing made of carbon fiber.
The sports car rides on 18-inch BBS alloy wheels finished in matte gray or matte bronze, and can be had in WR Blue Pearl or Crystal White Pearl shades.
Refinements Beneath
While the new outfit adds some presence, the real distinction lies under the skin. The FA24 naturally aspirated 2.4-liter boxer engine carries lighter internals, including pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft, flywheel, and clutch cover from the racecar.
Subaru did not specify whether output has changed from the stock 232 hp (173 kW / 235 PS), although it claims the revisions create a racecar-like engine feel with reduced vibration and smoother acceleration.
The Type RA also adopts the rear differential case with cooling fins from the Cup Car Basic. It benefits as well from a Shift Assist Function developed in the Super Taikyu Series, with Rev Sync for downshifting and Flat Shift for upshifting without lifting off the accelerator.
Chassis upgrades include an new set of ZF front and rear dampers, and an STI rear flexible draw stiffener. Stopping power has also been improved thanks to Brembo brakes with ventilated discs and gold calipers.
Pricing and Availability
Unfortunately for the rest of the world, the BRZ STI Sport Type RA remains a Japan-only affair. Production is capped at 200 units for the standard model, priced at ¥4,972,000 ($32,100), with another 100 units reserved for the version equipped with the rear wing at ¥5,478,000 ($35,400).
These figures represent ¥1,188,000 ($7,700) and ¥1,694,000 ($10,900) above the regular BRZ STI Sport.

The limited availability means prospective buyers will need to enter a lottery to secure the chance to purchase one. Applications will be accepted at Subaru dealers between November 13 and 30.
The special edition will also be on display at the Fuji Speedway this weekend during the final round of the ENEOS Super Taikyu Series Empowered by Bridgestone.
