Talks about the upcoming iPhone 18 are growing louder after a new report says the phone won’t launch until 2027. Apple is expected to change the release timeline of its smartphones. Instead of releasing every model at once, the company plans to spread launches across two different periods. The base flagship will no longer launch in September.
Here’s why the iPhone 18 is coming in 2027, and not in 2026
Several tipsters and rumors had earlier claimed that Apple is planning to split its smartphone launch timeline into two. Reports from Ming-Chi Kuo, Bloomberg, and The Information suggest Apple is planning to release the top-of-the-line models in late 2026. These include iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and the new iPhone Fold. The base variant will no longer be launched alongside the Pro models.
Similar sources say that the iPhone 18 will arrive later in 2027. Now, fresh information from the known media outlet, Nikkei Asia, supports this timeline. As per the source, Apple has at least five iPhone models in development. Three of them are planned for a late 2026 release, while the remaining two are scheduled to launch on first half of 2027. The report further claims that the successor of the iPhone Air is in the works, though its launch plan remains unclear for now.
The new strategy reflects the company’s plan to simplify supply and marketing
One of the main reasons behind Apple’s new strategy of splitting the launch into two parts seems to be the supply chain control. By spreading releases out, the tech giant can better manage parts shortages, especially memory components. This approach also gives the company more time to work with the suppliers.
Nikkei Asia also claims that Apple is soon to begin expanded meetings with partners at Apple Park to ensure steady production throughout the year. Apart from this, launching Pro models at first also helps the firm in marketing. The company can first shift the buyer’s attention to Premium models. The regular iPhone 18 then gets its own spotlight months later.
