For many buyers, the biggest hesitation with EVs is still range anxiety. Porsche’s new Cayenne EV looks set to put that worry to rest, with the carmaker claiming more than 373 miles on a single charge. Add in blistering performance and surprising practicality, and this electric SUV is shaping up to be one of Porsche’s most convincing models yet.
The 373-Mile Promise
Porsche
While the 911 is what gets everyone’s blood pumping, Porsche knows the Cayenne is its bread and butter. While the EPA estimates the new electric Cayenne will cover about 320 miles on a charge, Porsche claims it will do more than 373 miles. That means far fewer charging stops on long drives. And if you do need to plug in, the Cayenne can recharge from 10 to 80 percent in just 16 minutes with the right DC fast charger. For context, the Tesla Model Y tops out at about 357 miles, while the Lucid Gravity stretches closer to 450. Although it falls short of the Lucid, the Cayenne makes up for it in more ways than one.
A Porsche at Heart
Porsche
The Cayenne EV will be offered in three trims: base, S, and Turbo. Even the entry model gets all-wheel drive and around 400 horsepower, while the range-topping Turbo benefits from more than 800 hp and a sub-3-second 0 to 60 mph sprint. Despite the switch to batteries, Porsche hasn’t forgotten its roots. The gas-powered Cayenne will continue alongside the EV, giving customers the choice between internal combustion and electrification, whereas its smaller sibling, the Macan, is electric-only.
More Practical Than Ever
Porsche
Without an engine up front, Porsche has added a frunk with more than 3 cubic feet of space. Pair that with the rear trunk’s 27.6 cubic feet, and you get over 30 cubic feet of everyday storage. Fold the rear seats flat, and the total capacity climbs to nearly 60 cubic feet. So will this be the ultimate all-rounder EV? It certainly ticks the boxes for range, performance, and practicality, while trimming away the usual headaches of electric ownership. The only question now is how much Porsche will ask for it.
