ConocoPhillips sold Marathon’s former 15-story CityCentre headquarters at 990 Town and Country Blvd. to MetroNational. The 442,000-square-foot building, delivered in 2022, has been nearly vacant since the companies announced layoffs soon after a merger. ConocoPhillips acquired Marathon Oil last year for $22.5 billion.
MetroNational plans to convert the Marathon tower into a multi-tenant office property.
The Houston Chronicle reports that converting former energy company headquarters into multi-tenant office towers has proven successful in strong Houston submarkets. The tower’s location in West Houston may give MetroNational an advantage in filling the space.
ConocoPhillips was represented by real estate firm JLL. Harris County appraised the property at $164.7 million as of January.
