Mercedes-AMG is getting ready to reveal the next-generation GT 4-Door Coupe, and before its official debut later this spring, the automaker is highlighting some of the new performance technology that will define its upcoming high-performance sedan. Final winter testing is currently underway in Northern Sweden, where engineers are pushing the new model on frozen lakes and snow-covered roads to fine-tune traction, power delivery and overall vehicle control.

At the center of the new model’s performance focus is a new AMG Race Engineer system, which gives drivers a much higher level of control over the car’s driving dynamics. The system allows drivers to individually adjust throttle response, cornering behavior and traction control through three separate rotary controls. The goal is to let drivers tailor the car’s behavior from stable and composed to far more aggressive and track-focused, depending on the situation.
The new GT 4-Door Coupe will also feature AMG Performance 4Matic+ all-wheel drive, and for the first time in an AMG electric performance car, it will use three axial flux electric motors. This setup allows fully variable torque distribution not only between the front and rear wheels, but also between the left and right rear wheels, effectively giving the car advanced torque vectoring for improved cornering and traction.

Mercedes-AMG is also equipping the new GT 4-Door with a high-performance braking system that combines carbon-ceramic brake discs at the front with steel discs at the rear, designed to provide consistent braking feel whether the car is using regenerative braking, traditional braking, or a mix of both.
Another major piece of the performance puzzle is the AMG Active Ride Control suspension. The system uses air suspension with active roll stabilization and hydraulically interconnected dampers to reduce body roll while also improving ride comfort. Mercedes says the setup allows a wider range between comfort and performance, meaning the GT 4-Door Coupe can be comfortable on the highway but still sharp on a track.
The new electric performance sedan will also feature a battery with directly cooled cells designed to maintain performance even under repeated hard driving. The battery system uses a special coolant that flows around each individual cell to keep temperatures in the optimal range for both performance and longevity.
The full reveal is expected later this spring.
