Google is on a spree to improve most of its first-party applications. Now, the tech giant has released a new update to the Google Home app, bringing a redesigned UI alongside tons of new features. With the new update, the company aims to make the smart-home management quicker and more dependable.
Google pushes new UI and features to its Home app
Instead of focusing on a single big addition, the new update (V4.3) improves several parts of the smart home application. Once updated, users will feel a slight upgrade in response time. Lights, switches, and other smart appliances now react with less delay thanks to updated controls. Android users get an extra feature with the update: many Matter-compatible devices will now work locally even when the internet drops.
Alongside the improved response time, the automation has been reorganized as well. The “Home” and “Away” modes are now moved to a more flexible editor. Users can now add several new conditions and steps. These modes still trigger as they always have, but the behind-the-scenes tools now give more control to the users.
There are many under-the-hood changes as well
Apart from the above-mentioned features, the updated Google Home app adopts a cleaner layout on phones running Android 15 and above. App contents now stretch from edge to edge, creating a more spacious and cleaner look. This design mirrors changes Google has been making across its ecosystem to make it feel more modern. Cameras inside the Home app also get new AI-powered descriptions through Google’s Gemini model.
The update also fixes several known issues. Device setups that previously crashed should now complete normally, casting errors on Android have been patched, a recurring onboarding popup has been fixed, and thermostat setup no longer produces duplicate images. The update is already available for iPhone users, and Android users will get it in the coming days.
