A new leak has popped up for the AMD RX 10950 XTX GPU, and if the details prove to be accurate, then it could end up resulting in a major win for AMD and gamers everywhere. AMD has, quite ceremoniously, closed the gap between it and NVIDIA in recent years with regard to its GPUs. However, many will still tell you that NVIDIA GPUs ultimately come out on top, and that really isn’t off the mark.
The good news for AMD fans, and AMD itself, is that this might be changing. According to a recent leak from user zhangzhonghao on Chiphell (via Gamer Meld and Wccftech), AMD’s RX 10950 XTX GPU comes with a larger number of cores per compute unit than the RX 9070 XT GPU. This will ultimately translate to a big boost in gaming performance. If that ends up happening, then all AMD has to do is price the GPU below whatever NVIDIA is offering to keep things competitive. This could easily lead to higher sales numbers and a reclaiming of some of the GPU market share.
The leak claims the AMD RX 10950 XTX GPU has 128 cores per compute unit
It’s worth noting that none of this has been confirmed yet, but the information comes from a well-known leaker, so it shouldn’t be dismissed. According to the details, AMD’s new GPU will have 96 compute units. This is a significant jump over the 64 CUs in the RX 9070 XT, which had 64 cores (also known as stream processors) per compute unit. The RX 10950 XTX will have 128 cores per compute unit. That equals out to a whopping 12,288 cores per compute unit.
This is a massive leap. That being said, it’s much too early to tell what that looks like in terms of frames per second for your games. The belief, though, is that this kind of a leap could help AMD’s new GPU outperform the RTX 5090 from NVIDIA, and possibly whatever NVIDIA has coming in the way of an RTX 6090. Again, though, it’s a little early to definitively make that claim. Regardless, it’s an exciting prospect for those hoping to see AMD return to form in the high-end GPU market. That’s especially true if it means there would be a less expensive option for gamers than what NVIDIA has to offer.
