Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said Israel “refrained from additional attacks” against Iran due to a call with President Trump early Tuesday.
In a thread on the social platform X, Netanyahu’s office said a ceasefire between Israel and Iran “was set for 07:00 this morning.”
“At 03:00, Israel forcefully attacked in the heart of Tehran, struck regime targets and eliminated hundreds of Basij and Iranian security forces personnel,” the thread said.
“Shortly before the ceasefire was due to take effect, Iran launched a barrage of missiles, one of which took the lives of four of our citizens in Be’er Sheva. The ceasefire took effect at 07:00,” the thread continued.
Netanyahu’s office then claimed that a few minutes later, the Iranians “launched one missile at Israeli territory,” with another two missiles coming more than three hours later. They caused no casualties nor damage because they landed in “open areas” or were intercepted, the post said.
Israel responded by taking out a radar installation outside Tehran, Netanyahu’s office said.
“Pursuant to the conversation between President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu, Israel has refrained from additional attacks.”
Trump and Netanyahu talked while the president was headed to a NATO summit in the Netherlands, according to The Associated Press.
Earlier in the day, Trump had expressed his displeasure at fighting that went on between Israel and Iran after he announced the parameters of a ceasefire Monday.
“We basically — we have two countries that have been fighting so long and so hard that they don’t know what the f‑‑‑ they’re doing,” Trump told reporters at the White House before heading to the NATO summit.
