
The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services approved Mission Hospital (shown) in Asheville to add no more than 95 additional acute care beds, bringing the hospital’s total to 828. The agency also approved Novant Health to build a 34-bed hospital in Arden, just south of Asheville.
Mission’s proposed expansion would cost more than $198 million and is scheduled for completion in 2031 while Novant Health’s proposal is estimated to cost $322 million and is scheduled for completion in 2030,
Novant Health Asheville Medical Center will be built on a 24-acre site near the Biltmore Park Town Square shopping mall off Interstate 26 at 455 Long Shoals Road. Â
Novant did receive approval earlier this month to build a $250 million hospital in Brunswick County and is also planning a $1 billion expansion in Wilmington.
