Rep. Cory Mills (R-Fla.) on Wednesday introduced a bill to make the wall on the U.S.-Mexico border a national monument, dubbing it the “DON-ument Act” in a nod to President Trump.
The “Southern Border Wall National Monument,” the bill states, would be established in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas to “protect the southern border wall from alteration.”
“I’m proud to introduce THE DON-ument Act, a tribute to President Trump’s commitment to securing our southern border and protecting America’s sovereignty,” Mills said in a statement.
“This Southern Border Wall National Monument, spanning California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, stands as a powerful symbol of our mission to stop illegal crossings and defend our nation’s interests. By enshrining the wall alongside historic sites like The Statue of Liberty and Fort McHenry, we honor the America First principles that keep our communities safe and strong,” Mills said.
The bill adds to many Trump-flattery bills introduced by House Republicans this year.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.) proposed carving Trump into Mount Rushmore; Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.) proposed making Trump’s birthday a national holiday; and Rep. Addison McDowell (R-N.C.) introduced a bill to rename Dulles Airport to Donald J. Trump International Airport.
There is a bill to rebrand the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority as “WMAGA” and call the Metro the Trump Train, from Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.). A bill from Rep. Brandon Gill (R-Texas) would put Trump on the $100 bill, while Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) has a bill to create $250 bills with Trump’s portrait.
It also comes as Mills is battling a former girlfriend’s allegations of harassment and threatening to release intimate photos, which he has forcefully denied.
