Windows updates, including those in Windows 11, aren’t always the carefree experience we hope for them to be, and this goes for the 24H2 update from late last year that’s been going out of its way to trip up gamers who have Easy Anti-Cheat installed. If you’ve not run into this problem, then you can consider yourself lucky. Many who have come into contact with this issue have been experiencing stop errors and have not been able to update.
Microsoft now seems to have fixed this issue once and for all, though technically it was fixable before. The only problem is that some, perhaps a majority of users, may not have known what the fix was or if there was one available. Even those who did know would have had to take additional measures to get things working correctly. Something which isn’t exactly a great user experience when updates have been simplified to just a few clicks. Thankfully, Easy Anti-Cheat should no longer be blocking users trying to update to Windows 11 24H2.
Microsoft’s latest Windows 11 24H2 patch fixes the Easy Anti-Cheat stop errors
Easy Anti-Cheat is a pretty well-known anti-cheat software that’s widely used in many games. So, it was no doubt a little surprising to gamers who play games that run this software that updating to the latest version of Windows 11 would cause any sort of major issues.
The root of the issue gamers were facing is a system crash, or the blue screen of death that many Windows users may be familiar with. The cause of this was an older version of the Easy Anti-Cheat software from before April 2024. Once Microsoft got wind of these crashes, it added the block that would present users with the stop error when trying to update.
According to guru3d’s report, Microsoft has now patched this error out as it has fixed the incompatibility that was causing the crash problems. That means you can go directly into your settings and update to the 24H2 version of Windows 11 if you aren’t already on it. This wouldn’t be the first time Windows updates have caused errors or had some inconsistent compatibility with other software. That being said, it doesn’t make it any easier when things like this pop up.
