Samsung’s Bixby is the default voice assistant the company uses across its products. But is it the best? Hardly. Thankfully, Samsung is giving users more options as the company has announced a partnership with Microsoft that brings Copilot to its new TV and smart monitor lineup.
Samsung TV to get Microsoft Copilot assistance
Samsung says that its 2025 smart TV and monitor lineup will get an AI upgrade with the help of Microsoft Copilot. When you turn on your TV, you can launch the Copilot app from the home screen. From there, you can choose to interact with the AI assistant either using your voice or the remote control.
So, what can you do with Copilot? According to Samsung, it will allow users to search for TV shows and movies that suit their preferences. Alternatively, if you’re watching something, you can use Copilot to find out more information about the show. It can also be useful for breaking down complex topics, summarizing a movie’s plot, or our favorite feature, translation foreign languages.
We’re not sure how accurate these translations are compared to a human-made translation. After all, there are a lot of nuances in language that machine translators might not be able to grasp (yet). However, it will still be useful in a pinch.
Microsoft not stopping there
According to David Washington, Partner General Manager, Microsoft AI, “Copilot on Samsung TVs is designed to feel like an AI companion in your living room. Together with Samsung’s leadership in advanced display technology, we’re bringing people a shared experience that helps them discover something to watch, ask questions, make plans, or simply enjoy a moment together, all on the biggest screen in their home.”
So far, the TVs and smart monitors that will support the new Copilot app include Samsung’s 2025 TVs, such as the Micro RGB, Neo QLED, OLED, The Frame Pro, and The Frame models. It will also support the M7, M8, and M9 smart monitors.
That being said, Microsoft isn’t stopping with Samsung. The company wants to expand Copilot’s existence to more devices and brands. Earlier this year, LG announced that it plans to bring Copilot to its TVs as well.
