
Back in the late 1960s, NASCAR was the best thing since sliced bread. It had certainly caught the public’s imagination and with that, the major automakers were falling over themselves to achieve racing dominance. Mercury wanted to join the party and decided to create a limited-run homologation special – something that the company designed to win on the daunting superspeedways of that day.
